How is osteoporosis diagnosed?

Osteoporosis is usually diagnosed with a bone density measurement that compares the patient’s bone density to the average of a reference group. A diagnosis can be made if the measurement shows that the bone density is significantly lower than what is normal for individuals of the same age and gender. A history of fractures can also indicate osteoporosis.
