How is lactose intolerance diagnosed?

Lactose intolerance can be diagnosed with a breath test that measures the amount of hydrogen in the exhaled breath after consuming a meal containing lactose. If there is more hydrogen than normal, it indicates lactose intolerance. Blood sugar measurement is also used as poor absorption of lactose does not normally raise blood sugar.
