How is a bone density measurement done?

Bone density measurement is usually done using a DXA device (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry), which uses X-rays to measure bone density. The measurement is painless and takes only a few minutes. The patient lies still under the device while it typically scans the pelvic and lower back areas.
