How does influenza spread?

Influenza primarily spreads through droplet transmission when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. The virus can also spread through hands if one touches contaminated surfaces and then touches their face. Infection can also be directly acquired from another person through handshakes or hugs. Influenza viruses can remain viable on surfaces from a few hours up to 24 hours.
